The university was formed by upgrading the prestigious Madhabdev College, an institution that had been a pillar of higher education in the North Bank region of the Brahmaputra since its inception in 1964.
Named in honor of Sri Sri Madhabdeva, a profound scholar and paramount saint of the Ekasarana Dharma, the university stands on the principles of "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" (The Truth, The God, and The Beauty).
