Yogi Vemana University (YVU) was established in 2006 by an Act of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature, with effect from March 9, 2006. Named after the renowned philosopher, poet, sage, and yogi Vemana, the university is a blessing for students and researchers of the backward Rayalaseema region, particularly Y.S.R. Kadapa district. The erstwhile Sri Venkateswara University Post Graduate Centre was elevated to a full-fledged university to provide a more conducive environment for value-based education and quality research.
The university is situated about 15 kilometers from Kadapa city on the Kadapa-Pulivendula road, amidst serene surroundings on a sprawling 652-acre campus. YVU has received UGC 2(f) and 12(B) statuses and achieved NAAC 'A' grade with a CGPA of 3.13 in November 2022.
