Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) was established in 2008 as a public state university located in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The university's inception was the realization of a long-cherished dream of the people of SPS Nellore District, with the legislative framework documented in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette on September 24, 2008. The University Grants Commission formally recognized the degrees awarded by VSU under Section 22 of the UGC Act on January 20, 2010, and the university also achieved 2(f) and 12(b) Status, granting access to central assistance.
The university operates on a sprawling 83.33-acre campus located in Kakuturu Village, about 13 km from the district headquarters, along National Highway No. 5.
