About Bholanath Borooah College

Bholanath Borooah College, established in 1943, stands as one of the most venerable degree colleges in Guwahati, Assam. Named after the legendary Assamese businessman and philanthropist Bholanath Borooah, the college was founded during the shadow of World War II as a night college with just 15 students, aimed at providing educational opportunities to underprivileged youth who worked during the day. The college's first honorary Principal was the legendary Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Chief Minister of Assam.

Now an autonomous institution, B. Borooah College has evolved into a premier educational hub offering Higher Secondary, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate programmes across Arts, Science, and Commerce streams. The college is affiliated to Gauhati University for degree programmes and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council for HS courses. In 2023, the college achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first government college in Northeast India to receive NAAC A++ Grade with a CGPA of 3.62.
