Established in 1975, Visakha Government Degree College for Women is a prestigious institution located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The college was founded by Sri Singavarapu Surya Rao, a freedom fighter and philanthropist, who envisioned a college exclusively for women. It came into existence during the International Women's Year 1975.
Smt. Rama Kumari Devi, the Rani Saheba of Jeypore, generously provided her summer resort palace, "Hawa Mahal," on Beach Road for the college on a nominal rent. The college was taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1992 and admitted to UGC assistance under 2(f) and 12B in 1999.
Affiliated to Andhra University and re-accredited with NAAC 'A+' Grade (CGPA 3.28), the college is ISO-certified and recognized as a Nodal Resource Center. It offers diverse UG and PG programmes with a seat capacity of 396 students.
