Established in August 1977, Government Degree College, Avanigadda is a prestigious institution located in Avanigadda, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. The college was founded owing to the magnanimity of Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao, the then Minister for Education, with a vision to serve the education needs of rural youth in the coastal region.
Initially established under Andhra University, the college was brought under Nagarjuna University during 1984-85 and accorded permanent affiliation in September 1988. Since 2011-12, it is affiliated to Krishna University, Machilipatnam. The college has been included under sections 2(f) and 12B of the UGC since 2000.
